What a thorough obedience plan includes
- Sit, down, stay and a clear release, taught in small steps.
- Walking beside you on a loose leash past joggers, strollers and other dogs.
- A recall practiced from short distances first, then longer ones.
- Settling on a mat while people eat, talk or pass by.
- Practice in the places you actually go, not just a quiet room.

Good questions
Before you begin.
How long does a package run?
Most are spread over several weeks, with a visit each week and a few minutes of practice every day. Steady practice matters more than the calendar.
Is it too late to train an older dog?
No. Adult dogs learn well. They may need more repetitions to replace habits, but many are calm and focused learners.
Which tools are normal?
A flat collar or harness, a regular leash and small treats cover most plans. A trainer should explain any other tool before you buy it.
How do I compare packages?
Look at the number of sessions, where they happen, what homework you get and what support follows the last lesson.
